Why is The QRFL? 

The main seed behind this idea was the sheer amount of friends who I spoke to who said things along the lines of "that sound so cool, but I could never do that" or "I wouldn't even know where to start". I want this to be the place where you start.

As a femme queer myself I am no stranger to being told that I can't do "manly" things like engineering, and I wanted to create a space where people can dip their toes in without that sentiment A space where people can learn that actually they CAN do this regardless of any physical trait they might have. Combat robotics is also one of the few truly adaptable sports. You make the robots, you can make the controls fit to your needs. It is also a sport where things like gender simply do not matter.  There is no physical trait that a person can have in the arena to give them an advantage or disadvantage.
